On World Environment Day, CNRG Calls for Urgent Action Against Pollution and Destructive Mining in Zimbabwe

On World Environment Day 2025, the Centre for Natural Resource Governance (CNRG) has issued a strong call for urgent action against Zimbabwe’s deepening environmental crisis. While echoing global efforts to combat plastic pollution, CNRG highlights the country’s escalating pollution and ecological damage caused by unregulated mining.

The statement points to widespread deforestation, toxic water contamination, and the failure to enforce Environmental Impact Assessments, with even the Minister of Mines acknowledging the severity of the problem. CNRG urges the government to adopt and enforce Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards and take decisive steps to restore environmental accountability and justice.
